World Cup Frenzy!

Some of the best matches are these quarterfinal games - Argentina v. Switzerland on now. It slow and fast, gripping with sweat and grit, good and bad referee calls (with cards or no cards), and young men stretching themselves to their limits as they try to bring home a win for their respective countries. Not only that, a win gets them into the semi-finals, on the road to the final game.

The hot and humid weather in the USA and Mexico (maybe a few early games in Canada) have brought some of the best players in the world to their knees, and out of the game they love so much because they can’t move quickly any longer, wilting as flowers without water, and terrible leg cramps. Hydration breaks do help the players.

I love the crowds singing and cheering on the teams on the field. It appears that the stadium filled fans are mostly well-behaved. Continuing the good behavior would be great until the final whistle is blown on the championship game. I’m hopeful this will ring true.

Watching the games brings me great joy! It’s a global event that is watched by a few billion people. I also love to watch my favorite referees - Anthony Taylor and Michael Oliver from the Premier League, along with my favorite players: Kevin de Bruyne (Belgium); Erling Haaland (Norway), Yamel Lamont (Spain and just turned 19 years old); Declan Rice (England), and of course, Messi, because he is the best player in the world. Messi has joy on his face when he plays, not all the time, but lots of the time.

Dripping drams…every minute of most games! Switzerland is down a player due to (2) yellow cards that equal a red card from one their players.

May the best team win…without any interference from the peanut gallery. If you watch and know FIFA, you know who the peanut gallery is.
