Heat Domes and Soccer!

YAY! Summer is here in full regalia - HEAT! Plus we turned the page on a new month - we've got half of 2026 done and in the books! Time is moving at warp speed, don't you think?

It’s crazy being outside with the intense heat. In the house, I’ve got all the fans operating at almost full speed to keep the cool air down. However, I love the heat, just not the humidity and heat, which is what we’ve got now.

I hope to swim some laps later today. Cool myself off a bit. I love that coolish water going over my body with each water-filled stroke.

Also, the USA Men’s Soccer Team has the game of their lives later today. I’ll be sure to tune into this epic game with bated breath and cheering from my hot seat! The USMNT has NEVER gotten this far in FIFA World Cup play.

Of course, the women’s national team has won the CUP four times! Yep, the ladies won in 1991, 1999, 2015 & 2019, so the guys have a lot of catching up to do.

What is so fun about this global tournament is watching how unified all the fans have been. My daughter went to a game in Philadelphia last week, and she was impressed by how all the fans behaved and cheered for both teams on the field (France vs. Iraq). It’s not all ranch dressing and Texas Roadhouse stories…just saying.

Due to upsets with Davids vs. Goliaths, I’m going to cheer for the underdogs. I’m very interested in how Cape Verde will contain Messi and his Argentina teammates. Cape Verde has a population of 530,000, similar in size to Atlanta, GA (only the city…not the state!). How do they field a team that good??

The likes of smaller countries taking down the giants, like Paraguay overpowering the powerhouse of Germany, help explain why soccer/footbal/futbol is called the beautiful game!

It’s wild out on that pitch! Can’t wait for the next game to start.
