March 4, 2025 - Poggibonsi, Italy Villa
Yep, travel can be a whirlwind with long flights and then reaching the final destination. For us it’s been only planes and trains (one tram), but reached our villa yesterday in Poggibonsi (between Florence and Sienna) with the excitement of adventure once we crossed the threshold of where we’ll be for the next two weeks. Except for a quick trip to Rome for three days and two nights, we will enjoy the sights and sounds of the Tuscany region.
Today I spent the day in Florence with travel mate Linda Misencik. My guys wanted to rest up from the last two days of travel which was fine with me. We left the villa at 6:30 am (travel mate Jodie rented a car so she offered to take us to the train station 5 minutes away by car and we obliged). If there weren’t so many stops, an express trip from Poggibonsi to Florence would be no more than 25 minutes, 30 tops.
It really is a lovely train ride through Tuscany with its small enchanted towns and villages nestled between low mountains and sweeping fields of wildflowers.
Florence had a packed crowd all day (more than yesterday when we spent about three hours there with Ryan seeking out two leather shops he’s seen on social media and interested in a wallet and belt to purchase as his souvenirs. He bought a wallet so far.
Since we have a packed first week, and free museum entrances the first Sunday every month, Linda and I took advantage of the top two: Acadamie Galleria that houses boyfriend, David, and the Uffuzzi Museum that is just plain awesome. Some Leonardo Da Vinci’s and Michelangelo’s paintings are sprinkled in this fine U- shaped building, much to my delight. However, there were thousands of tourists wanting to do the same thing- especially with free Sunday admission. We saw groups of 50-100 people- that all had to wait in line to get in like the rest of us.
The wait to get in the museum and see David and other interesting artworks was less than 20 minutes, almost circling the huge building. The Uffuzzi was packed, too. Thankfully, most people were polite to view the fan favorites and gave clearance where it was do.
Once back at the Villa, Jodie’s daughter, Carmen, made a traditional and delicious Tuscan dinner. We were hungry and dug right in, the house now up to nine people.
A few pics from today: well, they won’t load. Sigh.
Update; good WiFi and photos to add here.
bSoleille!
