She’s at it Again! #Celebrating Others with Dr. Aziza Shad and her Newest Award!

When there are people in our lives that have made huge impacts on humanity, we’ve got to shout them out, or at least, I do. Dr. Aziza Shad is one of those people. Recently, she received a prestigious award from SIOP (International Society of Pediatric Oncology) in Lagos, Nigeria. She gratefully, and choked up when her name was called, received the Friend of SIOP Africa Award, a new award started a year ago! This is like winning the Oscar for Pediatric Oncologists worldwide.

Dr. Shad’s thousands of patients and families are proud of her exceptional work in treating Childhood Cancers and beyond. It is no surprise that her unwavering dedication and deep commitment and passion would result in this award, and the other honors bestowed on this remarkable doctor.

Frankly, there is no one like her in the medical landscape of pediatric cancer.

I say this with gratitude and humility, as does anyone who meets her because she is that good. The fact she is making a mark in treating kids in Ethiopia with kids that had no hope, are living and doing well once she got her programs up and running in the last 11 years.

She cares.

She has processes in place in training pediatric oncologists. Her willingness to help will not be stopping in Ethiopia. Dr. Shad has designs on helping other African nations with their pediatric cancer patients and programs, along with her foundation, The Aslan Project.

I love that Dr. Shad loves kids from all over the world, and is willing to help sick kids no matter their place in life. I’ve known her to fly to Addis Ababa to give a test to an up and coming oncologist for one day, then fly home. That’s saying something to her dedication in her chosen field.
