Forest Bathing in the Flatirons - Boulder, Colorado

There are certain things in life that are never mistaken, like ocean waves crashing down on the beach, the sounds of a crying baby, and the distinct smell of pine in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

The sound of the wind weaving through the trees are also a big treat, and luckily we were able to take advantage with big and deep breaths on the Flatirons range this morning. The deep blue skies with a few slowly moving puffy white clouds for good measure, and the company that I hiked with starting our ascent through the meadow had me giddy for the first hour.

We flew out for this trip. It’s been a few years since I drove out to Colorado, the “Colorful State,” that right now is all shades of brown. Hiking in the mountains is usually at the top of my list. I’ve been lucky to hike 14ers over the last decade, and have done every single hike in the Flatirons, some more challenging than others.

Hubby Bill, our friend Linda Misencik, and I had the most glorious morning sharing our love for these beautiful mountains. I’ve had dreams lately of a return hike through the large meadow that’s at the start of the main trail ascents in the Flatirons. The elevation is sneaky as our pounding hearts reminded us we were climbing up and up until we hit the tree line and the rest of the trails.

Breathing in that fresh mountain air, and standing among the trees is forest bathing at its finest. I wish I could bottle up those amazing feelings.
