The New Era

Do you like drama? Do you like outstanding costumes? Are you a Downton Abbey fan? If so, run to your favorite local theater and be wowed by the grandeur of Downton and its characters. It's so good you don't need the popcorn (well, you might, to get through 20 minutes of trailers).

As a big DA fan, I checked the movie schedule in my neck of the woods two days ago. I thought the movie was for US release on May 20th - today! But, lo and behold, they had showings on May 19th, and I went! After Long-Arming (4) large quilts yesterday, it was a good decision as I used the movie as motivation and a carrot to get 'em all done - even with a 45-minute lunch break.

There is something magical about going to the theater, a first for me since the pandemic began two years ago. I love getting into my seat and getting lost in the scenes unfolding on the giant silver screen before me. And, frankly, I'm not sure many folks knew about the day before, or prerelease showing as the theater only had a handful of people in the seats. I'm not complaining about that, as I sat front and center to have the movie engulf me as only a large screening can do.

I also have to admit that Julian Fellowes knows how to tug on the heartstrings as the helm of the entire series (and the first movie). He covers all the basics; love, engagements, death, birth, intrigue, weddings, and funerals, albeit with stunning locations and the British aristocracy and their servants.

I loved every minute of the 2 hours 5 minute movie. I also leaned into viewing this movie from a writer's perspective, which made watching it extra special. They did good!

Have a great weekend! And if you are hankering for a good movie to see this weekend, check out The New Era of Downton Abbey!
