Spice Girls Take Silver Medal in Pickleball!

Rain pounded the roof and windows when my alarm went off at 7:15 am. I jumped out of bed because I had to leave early enough to get to my Pickleball Club, The Putaway. I hoped my teammates would arrive around the same time so we could all do a proper warm-up.

I knew the competition would be fierce. I play a lot of pickleball with most of the ladies at the club, but the stakes are higher in a 3v3 tournament format. We also had teams from the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Getting the jitters out in that first game cost my partner and me the match. I played terribly. I don’t know why, but I came back in the other games, along with my two Spice Girls: Beth and Jen (our team name), who did amazingly well to grab second place and the silver medal!

Fun, really, is the name of the game. I had a blast! A big shout-out of thanks to Debby Skipp, who puts on this favorite tournament for women over 50.

And I would be remiss not to shout out my partners, Beth Spicer and Jen Zak! Plus our cheerleaders, Deb Needle (also a Spice Girl) and Jordan Rupard.
