The Masters!

Not golf...ART.

Nope, there wasn’t a golf tournament in these parts, as in Masters, but oh, do they have the art! It’s France, for gosh sake, and of course, they have ART that’s off the charts!

Some Masters in the art world do not have to swing a club; instead, they stroke their canvas with brushes, thin lines, and color that is out of this world. I can see why they painted in the South of France; the light is something I’ve never experienced before, and I totally get it. The blues and other others stand out against an azure blue Mediterranean Sea. Azure is the color between cyan and blue on the visible light spectrum. It is often described as the color of the sky on a clear day.

The two Masters we saw today were the Marc Chagall Museum (I LOVED it!) and the Henri Matisse Museum, located about a mile from the Chagall Museum. Parking was tight, and driving around for 15 minutes to find a spot to get into the Chagall Museum was enough for us to walk to the other one. Easy Peasy too.

And let me say for the record; driving is quite haphazard here in France. The roads are tight and narrow, the lane lines are also very small, and people do what they want to do. There seems to be no rhyme or reason except for stop lights and watching speed limits.

Since the art was spectacular, it was like being meditative (thanks to traveling buddies Katy Dalgleish and Wendy Coad, living in France) while walking through the salons of framed masterpieces. If ever in Nice, please do NOT miss the Chagall! We liked it so much that we even had a salad lunch in the garden area of the Museum.

On our last day in France, Katy and I dipped our toes into that mesmerizing sea of blue. It was not as cold as I suspected it would be, and if there had been sand instead of rocks, I might have gone in further.

Blessed beyond anything I could have imagined here, I am one grateful gal for how everything worked out so beautifully. On second thought, I could leave the motorcycle guy who about ran me over while driving on the sidewalk tonight…but everything else was terrific!

Viva la France!

L-R: Chagall, with Katy and Wendy, and dipping a toe into the Mediterranean. My other photos would not load. Will try again tomorrow.
