Sunset, Sailboat, and a Surprise Flyby!

Photography of any kind is my jam! I used to take lots of photos with my SLR cameras and point-and-shoot cameras, and now, for the last 16 years, with my iPhone (different model years). Based on how well the phone cameras work, I rarely pack or use my "good" bulky cameras. It is just easier to have that baby rocket ship, but powerful computer in my pocket to take one to thousands of pictures in an instant.

Last month, during a BGGGW adventure (that's Bowling Green Girls Gone Wild) in South Haven, Michigan, we headed down to Lake Michigan's shore for sunset. It was two blocks from our rental when we arrived. The sun and sand were still warm, but the air was a bit cool, with a slight breeze blowing by.

After a delicious dinner (thanks, Laura H.), we got down to the beach with plenty of time to spare for the brilliant orange sunset show ahead. One sailboat was on the horizon. I waited patiently for the sun and sailboat to align over Lake Michigan. I got my shot, all right—along with a shorebird that nearly scared the phone right out of my hand. My daughter would have screamed. My son figured the bird should have grabbed my phone and dropped it straight into Lake Michigan. Me? I'm just glad I kept my grip on my phone and didn't realize what I snapped at first. Basically I was framing a sunset, but this shore bird had other plans. Below is the serendipity of beach photography! Ha!

Thankfully, my phone survived, and I got one heck of a photograph! Thankful!
