Day 8 of CCAM - A New Audience for The Focused Fight!

Writing a book is rewarding for most authors. It was the best thing for me, hands down. When a book is first published, a lot of activity goes into getting it into the hands and minds of readers across genres. Marketing can be never-ending. Perhaps “finding” new readers is quite daunting. Turning a book into an audiobook can bring new life to those who would rather drive and listen than read and turn pages. Thankfully, I did that too.

It’s all personal preference.

Two weeks ago, a fellow pickleball friend, Jim Wereszcznski, held his birthday party at the club we belong to, The Putaway in Millersville, Maryland. He had three “vendors,” who are also friends and PB players, including us. Bill, Ryan, and I set up our booth for The Focused Fight book giveaway and signing for interested members of our story. All books were distributed! YAY! Jim has been a huge advocate for Ryan’s story, and Jim said it was a must to share our book with the pickleball community; at least that’s how Jim wanted it to go. It did!

A couple of people had already bought my book online and had already read it. Those folks came up to our booth and discussed how much they liked it and why. Most of them knew Ryan and had played many games with him, but they never quite knew his story; still, they wondered about him. The book helped reveal our story and why Ryan is shorter (chemo/radiation) and has less hair (the same reason), and so much more (like the power of community!), but his zest for life and his dry sense of humor shone through in the best possible way - on paper and in real life!

Then, last week, while playing with the Yinzers (Jim’s Thursday group), Margaret Smith, also a Yinzer and a vendor two weeks ago, came running up to me, all excited about what she read in the book! She gave me the best big bear hug and couldn’t believe the story! She LOVED it and made no bones about how much the writing affected her (in a good way).

For the next almost two hours, I was thinking I needed to interview her on camera, perhaps Jim W. too. I thought it would be great to share their positive thoughts.
