For today’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month post, I’m reaching back a couple of years to one of my favorite interviews.

And who better to help us GO GOLD than someone who actually knows a thing or two about GOLD?

Olympic gold medalist Dave Wottle won the 800-meter race at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich—wearing that famous golf cap! I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Dave on the cross-country course at Bowling Green State University, which we both ran on (different years!), and talk with him about childhood cancer awareness and other cancers in his life with his loved ones.

The video may be a throwback, but the message certainly isn’t. Dave highlights FAMILY TIME as one of the greatest contributors in getting through the battle. For Dave, for our family, and for so many families living in the trenches of cancer, the notion of FAMILY FIRST is paramount.

Cancer takes away so much from millions of people around the globe. It takes away time, basic routines, celebrations of every color and stripe, and ordinary days together and more. That makes the time families do have together even more precious.

So today, we’re Going Back for the Gold—Olympic gold AND childhood cancer gold. 🥇🎗️💛
