My video below explains how childhood cancer awareness is now represented by wearing a gold ribbon, a tradition that began in 1997. The group of parents who initiated the gold-wearing campaign did so because they believe children are as precious as the gold itself. Here is what a quick internet search revealed:

A group of parents and a board member from the former Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation (now the American Childhood Cancer Organization) began using the gold ribbon in 1997 to raise awareness for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM). The organization funded the production of the first gold ribbon pins that year.

By the early 2000s, the entire concept became widely recognized as the international symbol for Childhood Cancer Awareness. I love that they chose gold all those years ago. There is so much meaning in gold, and the preciousness of gold and children are intertwined so beautifully.

This September, let’s all Go Gold — to honor the fighters, celebrate the survivors, and remember the angels. Together, we shine brighter. ✨

The Going Gold Video is shown below!
