Day 1 of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September has been designated as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month since 2012. It was officially created and federally proclaimed by President Barack Obama. Even though Childhood Cancer doesn't get much federal funding for research and more, the foundations, hospitals, doctors, and nurses who care about these kids and their families make it work as best they can.
As my video mentions, this is my sixth year in creating awareness of CCAM. When my son, Ryan, my hero, a 5X survivor, mentioned that today is the first of September, I had to get on board to share the message of so many families in the fight for their lives.
I'll be mixing up my message this year, and I'll keep it a surprise what I do each day. I hope you'll follow along with me this month!
If you know a family in the throes of fighting childhood cancer—or any cancer at any age—please reach out with a card, a smile, a phone call, or even better, a platter of brownies or a tin of chocolate chip cookies.
We can never underestimate the power of those sweet gestures. Sometimes the smallest kindness arrives on the hardest day and becomes exactly what someone needs to keep going.
So, for the children still fighting, for the survivors carrying their scars and stories forward, for the families who walk beside them, and for those precious children we remember, this month, we GO GOLD.
Wear the gold ribbon. Share the stories. Say their names. Support the research. Love the families. Love the caregivers. Love the passionate doctors and nurses who fight along with each patient in their hospitals. It all helps more than you know.
And... never underestimate the power of a chocolate chip cookie.
