Are Whirlwind Weekends Back?

Updated: Apr 11, 2022

I'm wondering whether folks are back with multiple plans on the weekends. If I had my druthers, I would say, Yes (I think I still have my druthers)! This weekend was one of those for me: an almost 800 mile trip from Maryland to Raleigh NC and back in just under 24 hours. "The Best Daughter" and I headed down to North Carolina on Friday for a baby shower Saturday afternoon for one of my daughter's friends (Chelsea Arenas) but needed to get back Saturday since Olivia was signed up to run in the Cherry Blossom 10 miler in DC on Sunday (7:30 am start).

We had a lovely time. Even better were the colossal car conversations there and back. A captive audience for the two of us. Priceless.

The baby shower was fun plus terrific to see old friends and meet new ones too. We did an interesting twist to the traditional baby games. The guests were able to dust off their creative talents to design (I have not seen this ever before), with provided fabric markers and puffy paint, a saying or something unique on the blank white onesies provided. I took to it like a fish to water. I knew exactly what I'd create, you know, being a quilter and all. It had to be a quilt block - Ohio Star - my favorite block with the inscription: Chip off the ole block. Ha!

And we all made it to DC early today! Olivia finished and kept the family streak going for the 49th running of this iconic 10-mile race around the tidal basin, the Kennedy Center, and Hains Point. It was a beautiful morning for a run! Who is in for next year - the 50th running?
