The Sopranos

Yes, I’m a little late to this iconic pop-culture series! Watching TV is one of my guilty pleasures, since I don’t go to the movie theaters much these days. Hubby Bill and I never wanted to pay extra for HBO/HBO MAX, and today it is $22/month, so I’ve never seen some of the wildly popular shows on that service, then and now. However, it is much easier now with other streaming services buying those shows for new audiences like me.
While traveling with my five other bee-mates to the Eastern Shore of Maryland for our Holiday lunch on the water in December, ahem, we started talking about TV shows and what we’ve been watching lately. I quietly mentioned that there is one show that has been highly rated for years, but I never even watched one episode: The Sopranos. The next comment came from the way in the back seat, where Debbi revealed that Amazon Prime was offering the full six seasons of The Sopranos for $59.99. She even pulled up the offer on her phone to show me.
Hmmm.
I also looked at it on my phone then, but waited until that evening to think about purchasing it for myself. But then I remembered it was one of the pop-culture shows that “everyone” seemed to like 20+ years ago, buying it would be a Christmas present to me. I kind of figured with six seasons, all the accolades it won, and the stellar cast, that character development (something I love to watch and enjoy) would be outstanding.
So far, I am NOT disappointed. I am fascinated with the entire show - the good, bad, and ugly. And there is a lot of bad and ugly.
I have only five or six episodes left to watch. I don’t peek ahead because I want to watch each episode to the fullest, but I have kept track of all the people who were “whacked”: killed.
When I worked for the State of Ohio as a Probation/Parole Officer for 10 years, I don’t think I ever had any mobsters on my caseload, as those cases were almost all federal cases. I suspect that was also true for my co-workers. We never dealt with the mob, but certainly had other gang members on probation and parole.
Once I finish the series, I may write another blog post about my deeper thoughts on those “characters.” So far, it’s been a wild ride of murder, lying, cheating, betrayals, infidelity, violence, and guilt (plus many more). It’s not for the faint of heart.
In the last few weeks, I’ve gone to bed shaking my head after watching one or four episodes.
I’m looking forward to the last few, and fastening the seatbelt on my sofa!

bSoleille!
