Girls' weekend in Pittsburgh, PA, and oh, what fun it was!
If you read the book about the “girls” of Ames, Iowa, you will see that they have nothing on my Cleveland, Ohio, girls except they are 11 strong compared to our 6 strong. Our common denominator, though, is the powerful ideal of friendship.
In fact, our 6-Strong is one year older than the 11-Srong women in Jeffery Zazlow's book The Girls from Ames.
And even though we do not have a book about our four and five decades of history, our deep bonds resonate with all of us. We continue to maintain our relationships that have carried us through college, careers, marriage, divorce, sick children, and the death of a spouse with love and laughter as much as possible. Since I’m the only one now living outside of Ohio, I make it a point to keep in touch (even in person for dinner or lunch) whenever I can. It’s important to me to keep our distance as close as possible even though we live miles apart. Texts and calls and a yearly trip help to keep us connected.
Our long weekend in Pittsburgh was our pick for 2024. There were many similarities to our youth while growing up in the city of Cleveland, and we found Pittsburgh charming along with a tiki bar boat ride on the Three Rivers, good food, and a stellar cast of servers at all the restaurants and bistros we visited.
If you’re from Pittsburgh or have visited this city, you are well aware of its many bridges and straight-up inclines that could be called "hills." They are so steep! Yikes! I wondered why more Olympic athletes do not train there since I’d imagine strength training would be at the top of the list for many athletic programs.
I’m still smiling from this past weekend! I’ll keep the memories close to my heart until the next time Debbie, Sue, Kata, Robin, Sarah, and I meet up again.
Cheers to Friendship!
Terri
