Special Love Christmas Party 2022!

It’s never too early for a Christmas Party! Heck, don’t the big box or mall stores have “Christmas in July sales?” Kind of a party, right? Or was that one a big stretch?

Anyhoo, the Special Love, Inc. Holiday Party was held downtown DC on the Waterfront at The Pearl Street Warehouse this afternoon. It’s a time for parents and kids to enjoy the day, have some food, visit Santa and other families, and leave with a new toy or gift card, compliments of the DC Optimist Club (they have been supporting this party for years!).

And then there were the bearded men in attendance who had just finished No Shave November https://no-shave.org/leaderboard/. Hubby Bill is now one of this new gang of hairy fellas (lots of guys, I understand, didn’t shave in November on behalf of Special Love that raised close to $45,000 collectively for this wonderful cancer-fighting foundation. This marvelous group of dedicated dads and beyond finished second in the Partnerships Leaderboard - 2 Special Love for kids with cancer $44,566

Let’s not forget Santa, who started his beard in July to be ready for today —Chuck Wickens. He is a Santa Pro!

For me, it was great catching up with the parents I met two weeks ago at the Parent Getaway Weekend and matching up with their cancer-fighting children. Lots of love and support in the room for this tribe was my hope. I think Santa sprinkled a bunch of good cheer for all.

Ho Ho Ho! The other bearded men in the photos below are Aaron Andrews (SL Dir. of Developmental/Digital) and Dave Smith (Senior Director, Programs and Outreach), plus Judy Martin, Finance Director; Angela Ashman, Program Director; and Jan Bresch, Executive Director.
