Oh What a Night - 2026 Special Love Gala

Okay, so the annual Special Love Gala was just outside Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September) by two days. It was the best event of the year, and a great way to top off the previous month!
Seeing “old” friends and meeting new friends of Special Love is one of the highlights of the evening. The other activities are no less fun: perusing silent auction items, cocktails and appetizers, and then dinner and dancing with a “fake” casino.
NBC4 meteorologist and Special Love Board member Chuck Bell served as our emcee, guiding us through the night with his signature energy and enthusiasm, and also welcoming NBA Wizards Analyst Glenn Consor to wow the crowd with how NBA players don’t hold a candle to the kids fighting cancer (big applause and woohoooos).
When Board President Nicole Conti took the stage, she had the honor of presenting the prestigious Randy Schools Light of Love Award, named in honor of Randy Schools (the former President of the NIH Recreation & Welfare Association who helped launch the charity in 1983) to the wonderful Mary Prosser (MP) Brock Zimmerman.
This award is presented to individuals whose compassion, volunteerism, and long-term commitment serve as a beacon for families navigating a childhood cancer battle, and it couldn’t have gone to a sweeter person than MP, whom we’ve had the pleasure of meeting at Under 7 weekend in 1997. MP lives and works in Alpharetta, Georgia, but it doesn’t stop her from traveling and volunteering, like she lives around the corner from the various venues spread out over the DMV/Washington Metropolitan Area.
Congratulations, MP, on your Light of Love award!
You are so deserving and the Tomoff clan is thrilled for you!
Those gold shoes in the photos show that Dave Smith, Director of Outreach for SL, and I are still Going Gold!
bSoleille!
