Aloha!
Jodie and I left the big city of Waikiki late morning to head North to Kahana, Hawaii (the turning point of the North Shore of Oahu. If you've been, you know the beauty of volcanic mountains and rainforests on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other side of the road, teeming with aqua waters that take your breath away.
We are staying in Ahupua'a O Kahana State Park with a family we met (Colette) from a writing colleague (Thanks, Linda Mac!). A hike in a fauna-laden jungle with Colette and Lance's 22-year-old son, Kanaloa, was right up our alley. Moon chasing (rising) over the water was our late-night excursion with Colette, but it was not as successful as the hike due to large clouds blocking all the brilliant blue moon. Also, wild fruit easily to eat was everywhere! Check out the bananas below in the photos (they are their neighbors, but hey!).
We've got more fun in store over the next few days, which will include, but not limited to, more hiking in the vast mountain region, kayaking, snorkeling, and spinner dolphin searching. There are many things to see and do, and we are up for the adventures that await us.
Mahalo!
Terri
