It’s been Five Years - Cancer Free Milestone!

It’s been 5 years and two days since I had a radical hysterectomy to remove the uterine/endometrial cancer in my body. I was diagnosed in January of 2021 and had two surgeries. It was a rough time for me as I was a few weeks from publishing my debut book, The Focused Fight (March 2021).

What set me back a bit was that my surgeon nicked my bladder in two places which required a repair first, then the hysterectomy. Due to the extra trauma, I had to and sport a catheter for over three weeks, give shots in my stomach for any potential blood clots, and lay on the couch. Full healing was on hold for some time.

My family, friends, and my writing community kept me whole, never wavering in their support, and pushed me through the healing journey. But it was my hubby, @BillTomoff, that supported the bulk of the madness that included an almost comic routine for me to take a stinking shower. Plus, any laughter from that or anything funny we watched on TV, hurt my abdomen more than you can imagine. I can’t thank him enough to keep me down on the sofa so I got the best rest I needed, and the long road of recovery of total healing. It was truly what I needed, and Bill knew that better than me. It was his love language to me for restoring my health with good spirits and his utmost care every single day.

The good news today is that my OB/GYN Oncologist is casting me off to a regular OB/GYN doctor. Believe it or not, he referred me to a woman doctor I play pickleball with weekly. We’ve become friends on the court, and now I plan to call her office to set up my next appointment. She came highly recommended by my oncologist, and he added he believes in her so much that she will keep him informed about my medical case going forward. In fact, this past Tuesday, my “new” doctor (she doesn’t know it yet) and I celebrated “Galantine’s Day” with 30 other Jen’s Group players (aka Paddle Princesses).

I couldn’t be more grateful in moving forward knowing I’ll be in great hands, 🙌🏻 True blessings all around. It’s the little things.
