Happy Mother’s Day 2026

Only a couple hours left of a favorite May holiday - Mother’s Day. Yes, Memorial Day and the weekend can be a favorite, but honoring mothers is a special time. I thought about it all day with greetings coming in from near and far with several sets of threads of various groups I belong too. It’s a great way to keep in touch, wishing each other a Happy Mother’s Day, and feeling the love poured out from our own loved ones. Plus all the dog and cat moms, whose animals love them dearly too.

Then I got to thinking (could be crazy) about Mother’s Day. Is it really only celebrated one day a year? Isn’t it kind of an everyday thing, since “mothering” is a given out daily, and not just from the matriarchs of families.

Father’s can mother, too, and visa versa. Aunts and Uncles can mother when called upon. There is Mother Goose, Mother Earth, Mother May I?, Mother lode, mother land, mother superior, Mother Father Sister Brother, Motherhood, Mother Love, mother tongue, Mother and Child, and the queen mother and more. Oh, yes, there are Dog and Cat moms, too.

Maybe that’s the beauty of Mother’s Day after all.

It’s not simply about one calendar date marked in May. It is truly about the everyday acts of nurturing, protecting, guiding, comforting, teaching, and loving that quietly happen all around us every.single.day.

Mothering lives in the hearts of people willing to care deeply for others—isn’t that the best gift of all?

Happy Mother’s Day to one and all! Heck, we’ve all been born to a mother - our unifier for the 8 billion people on this planet right now.
