Drug Store Shopping Anyone?

Drug store shopping is not only for picking up prescriptions sent in by your doctor, and your favorite candy bar staring at you in the face at the register. It also carries 50% off cheeky Christmas “crap” the day or two after Christmas.

When my two sisters, Kimberly and Annette, and niece, Shana, thew the gauntlet down to drug store shop this morning, I was all in on the adventure.

When we lived in Ohio, a favorite Drug Mart store was less than a mile from our house. I shopped there all the time and loved the kitschy stuff offered, especially during the various holiday seasons. It was cheap decorating, especially for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and, of course, Christmas.

But, with no luck at two Drug Marts, we struck gold, or frankly, purple royalty, when it flashed before our very eyes at a CVS! Most folks would call them nutcrackers, but we call them handsome wooden kings. They are fabulous sentries, mostly to guard the plentiful nutcracker collection, and fake fireplaces around the globe.

An hour later, we tied a bid red bow with TJ Maxx’s clearance of overpicked holiday wrapping paper. My roll was $3 for 10 yards. This should last me a few years. I usually use and reuse holiday themed bags and tissue paper, but some things just need the paper.

Let the Nutcrackers drum onto the new year.

And just like that, our handsome wooden kings came home—proof that royalty can, in fact, be 50% off.
