Day 20 of CCAM - Volunteering At JUSTTRYANIT
The JustTryanIt Kids Triathlon was held today at the beautiful Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland. We had some liquid sunshine that really never dampened the enthusiasm of the athletes and spectators there to do good
It was the 17th year hosted by the school to accommodate 350 triathlon athletes from aged 5-15 from all over the D. C. Metropolitan region.
My whole family has been involved in volunteering at the great event since the beginning. This may have been my fifth year in announcing all the kids who cross the finish line. Bill did it for many years prior.
Swim. Bike. Run.
The racers raise money for kids and their families battling childhood cancer. The funds help to pay a car loan, mortgage payments, groceries, and keeping families on their feet while their child is in (mostly) heavy duty treatment. My family has been thrilled to help volunteer at this race each year because we know intimately the financial struggles these families face each day.
It’s kids helping kids! Yay!
Olivia and Ryan, as well as Bill and I work in the transition area starting 7 am.(where the bicycles and racing gear live for the race between the three disciplines).
The alarm dings very early on this special Sunday, yet we jump out of bed excited for this special morning. Once the race starts (swim) with three courses of race length), I head to the finish line.
Volunteers are the backbone of this organization to put on such a large event. I’m proud to be a part of this amazing organization JustTryanIt has developed
