Day 11 of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

When the planes crashed into the Twin Towers in NYC and the Pentagon in Washington, DC, on 9/11/2001, I received a call from one of Ryan's nurses to NOT come to the hospital (Georgetown) if we could help it. He was on active treatment then and needed help (blood products, etc.) a lot. If Ryan needed any blood products or IV antibiotics that sad day or in the week ahead, we'd have to take him to our local community hospital, and they would fax over the orders. Georgetown Medical Center cleared the slate for any incoming ER visits to only those from the Pentagon (along with surrounding hospitals).

Luckily, Ryan never needed a drop of anything that first crazy week after the attack on our country. Thank goodness!

Although Chapter 11—Childhood Cancer Connections is not about that awful day in American History, it is about the wonderful connections we made during our tumultuous years. I hope you'll take a listen.

Again, THANK YOU!
