The pinnacle of the week+ on Kelleys Island culminates for us with the early June Sunday - Kelleys Island 5&10K races. Except when Ryan was too sick to travel with years of hospitalizations around this time frame, we've been coming to the island for 40 years!
June 2, 2024 - Kelleys Island, Ohio - Thrilling Micro Moments on KI (I wrote this yesterday and posted today after driving all day to get home!).
When we accomplish something ordinary and possibly extraordinary, we fill our souls with joy and gratitude.
Today, when my five-time cancer survivor son decided on a game-time decision to walk the Kelleys Island 5K, I was elated (but had to tamper my excitement with his decision, you know, play it cool). He hardly ever participated in any running or walking event, so this was a big deal for him. He’s been playing a lot of pickleball and somewhat had a routine of going to the gym since the beginning of the year, so I was confident he could do it.
My soul is soaring, and my heart is filled with joy and gratitude! He accomplished this event with his Aunt Stephanie, who has had two knee replacement surgeries in the last two years. She was in tears as they both crossed the finish line for herself and her “favorite” nephew.
Miracle Moments, for sure!
As they say…it’s the little things…

PS—I'm glad to be in my hot seat writing. In the last six weeks, I've been highly distracted by all good things, namely travel, particularly back-to-back trips. Even blogging in this space was difficult to accomplish with either dead tiredness at the end of the day, spotty WiFi, or being with people when I could not slip away until bedtime. By then, too pooped to post!
