BINGO is Back!

I’ve been up early to head to a big event hall where my quilt guild, the Southern Comforters of Maryland, hosted a quilt B-I-N-G-O.A rainy day in the mid-Atlantic gave way to almost 200 people in attendance with the chance to win one of 20 gorgeous quilts created and quilted by our members.

The crowd was excited about being out once again. This year, I was in charge of raffle baskets - where our guild and other members donated various items.

We had a DIY bucket with a $50 Home Depot gift card, a 5 o’clock Somewhere basket with bar items including 7 bottles of wine and a bottle of Baileys Irish Cream, an Ahhh, Spa basket with soap bombs, lotion, and anything related to a bath or spa day, a Fabric & More basket filled with fabric/books/pattern, and a Gardening Basket complete with a hose, bulb plants, gardening tools and a large window box planter.People where throwing $20 bills at me for the purchase of their raffle tickets. Let’s say, we did great with all our baskets.

Our Quilt Bingo is are largest money-maker for the guild, a non-profit. The monies are used for programming, guild activities, and lots of batting for the plethora of quilts (most fabric is donated) created for the Veterans, Hospice of the Chesapeake, two local children’s hospitals, and the homeless in our area. It’s a big operation with a small cadre of caring quilters.

We also had a silent auction and raffle tickets for next year’s raffle quilt! It was a super fun afternoon. I loved that everyone seemed to be in a good mood, as the event hall was colorful and festive!

A BIG SHOUT of Thanks to Wendy Allen & Susie Stevenson, and our guild members for making this day a beautiful one for quilt lovers near and fat!
